Grand Finalists arrived at the famous 4 star
Hotel Rasmushof in Kitzbuhel, Austria having battled
their way through their respective leagues and National Finals, not to mention
the unpredictable British weather.
Beautiful scenery and weather was the order of the
day as they drank champagne on the terrace of the
wonderful Rasmushof hotel under the shadow of the
Hahnenkamm mountains.
On the 1st day of this 54 hole competition, the
weather was brilliant. We had a heatwave with
temperatures above 35 degrees Centigrade which
lasted all week. Three Mens Teams, some with
hangovers from the night before, and two Ladies teams arrived at the
outstanding
Schwarzsee Golf Club
to play for the
crown of the Mens and Ladies MW Golf Team
Classic Championships. The front nine of this
course is relatively flat and then you go uphill
into the stunning Alps. So a good score on the
front is imperative. The 1st round leaders were
Steve Bootes and his team from Sittingbourne
and April Whetton and her team from Sapey. After
golf, swimming in the hotel pool was the order of
the day
The next day, round two commenced. Same format
of golf, another day and again with stunning
scenery and weather. Steve and April kept onto
their lead but in the Mens event, the lead was
shortened by the lads from Collingtree.
After a day off, where some of the players went
white-water rafting in Lofer, others paraglided from the top
of the Hahnenkamm but some just relaxed by the
pool..
Fun
was had by all at the hilarious Tyrolean evening
with thigh slapping and entertainment in typical
Tyrolean style where the ladies from Mile End
joined in the yodelling. One of the men from
Swindon was
coaxed onto the stage to thigh slap with the Austrians.
What a great night was had by all.!
Onto
the last day, still fantastic weather but all 4 scores counted so the pressure
was on. Sittingbourne and Sapey both
held their nerve and became our Champions.
During the last day of this competition, we had
some fun elements, Best Individual Stableford
score, Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin for both
the men and the ladies. Michael Watson from
Sittinbourne, playing off 4, scored 42 points ( 2
under Gross). Fantasic achievement. Even
Constantina Rocca couldn't match that who was
playing golf at the same course that day!!!!!!
Champagne on the terrace started off the evening
of the gala dinner on Thursday evening. Beautiful food and
wine contributed to this great evening of fun and
the serious side of the presentation of the
awards which
were presented by the owner, Signe Kramheller-Reisch
and John Gale, director of Worldwide Tournament
Golf Ltd
All competitors were awarded trophies and other
memorabilia which were donated by the Hotel Rasmushof,
Schwarzsee Golf Club and Worldwide Tournament
Golf. Steve Bootes received the Alpine Cup along
with April Whetton who received the Tyrol Trophy
which they can both display at their club forever.
The
golf played was truly outstanding on a challenging
course with spectacular views, the friendships
gained were remarkable and the spirit and camaraderie
was second to none. It was pure delight to host
such a well-spirited event with such a friendly
atmosphere by all parties concerned.
A final quote from Steve Bootes, the captain of
Sittingbourne
“The organisation from start to finish was
top notch, the UK finals were held at a gem
of a place, The Kendleshire, only beaten by
the Grand Finals venue at the Schwarzsee
Golf Club in Kitzbuhel. Please pass on our
thanks once again to all the Rasmushof for
looking after us in such a splendid way. We
look forward to the competition starting
later on this year”.
We will be running this competition again
next year but with a new name,
TYROL TEAM CLASSICS
2008.
We have a new partnership with Golf-Alpin,
The Rasmushof Hotel and Kitzbuhel Tourist
Board
