Grand Finalists, together with the winners of
the last 2 years, Sittingbourne, arrived at the famous 4 star
Hotel Rasmushof in Kitzbuhel, Austria having battled
their way through their respective leagues and National Finals, not to mention
the unpredictable British weather.
Beautiful scenery but the weather was typically
British with rain as they drank champagne in the 'Stube' of the
wonderful Rasmushof hotel under the shadow of the
Hahnenkamm mountains.
On the 1st day of this 54 hole competition, the
weather was awful. Not being able to play at the
Schwarzsee Golf Club as it was closed, we quickly
changed venues to the scenic Wilder Kaiser Golf
Club, 7 miles away. This is the first year that
a venue has had to be changed but we were still
able to run the tournament even with a change of
venue at the last moment. Three Mens Teams, with
only two of them, Colne Valley and Chesterton, and two Ladies teams,
Tewkesbury Park and Foxhills playing for the
crown of the Mens and Ladies Tirol Team
Classic Championships. Wilder Kaiser is a fairly
flat course but long and all of the teams found it
challenging with Colne Valley just taking the lead
for the men and Foxhills for the Ladies. After
golf, swimming in the hotel pool was the order of
the day.
The next day, round two commenced. Same format
of golf, another day but with much better weather.
Back at Schwarszee with stunning
scenery.. Colne Valley and Chesterton were now
dead level, it could not be more exciting but
Foxhills kept onto
their lead.
Onto
the last day, still fantastic weather but all 4 scores counted so the pressure
was on. Colne Valley just pipped Chesterton by
one point, the closest it has ever been but
Foxhills increased their lead and became our Champions.
During the last day of this competition, we had
some fun elements, Best Individual Stableford
score, Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin for both
the men and the ladies.
Finally a day off where they could relax but the
majority of the finalists played golf at The
Eichenheim Golf Club, one of the best courses in
Austria. They thought that it was absolutely
beautiful. Some even said it was the best course
that they have ever played.
Champagne on the terrace started off the evening
of the gala dinner on Thursday evening. Beautiful food and
wine contributed to this great evening of fun and
the serious side of the presentation of the
awards which
were presented by the owner, Signe Kramheller-Reisch
and John Gale, director of Worldwide Tournament
Golf Ltd
All competitors were awarded trophies and other
memorabilia which were donated by the Hotel Rasmushof
and Worldwide Tournament Golf. Jon Goodwin
received the Alpine Cup along with Sharon Puddle who received the Tirol Trophy
which they can both display at their club forever.
The
golf played was truly outstanding on challenging
courses with spectacular views, the friendships
gained were remarkable and the spirit and camaraderie
was second to none. It was pure delight to host
such a well-spirited event with such a friendly
atmosphere by all parties concerned.
We will be running this competition again
next year
TIROL TEAM CLASSIC
2009
but with a different format and venue.
